There is an interesting legend about the unique statues of a naked woman that prop up the eaves of Daeungjeon Hall of Jeondeungsa Temple on Ganghwado Island. It is said that a carpenter who participated in the construction of the hall fell in love with a woman and that he made these statues to punish her or to cleanse her soul of sin after she betrayed his love. Also located inside the hall is the Sumidan, a platform built in the shape of Sumeru Mountain, on which Buddhist statues are placed and which is decorated with numerous goblins.
